Tao of Twitter

Tao of Twitter was my favorite book that we have read in Media Writing. This book gave me vast amounts of knowledge on how to become a tweeting professional. Prior to this class, I had a twitter account for about a year, but I didn’t use it much because my tweeting skills weren’t all the great and I had no followers. However, The Tao of Twitter changed all that. I now know how to get followers; the answer was simply put in the book—by tweeting! You don’t have to be constant, just send out sporadic tweets throughout the day.

I also learned how to organize my followers and the people I chose to follow. I wasn’t aware that other tweeters could be grouped and organized. Now I can organize them anyway I like. They can be organized by family members, to friends and school related tweeters. This also can make checking twitter messages and keeping up to date on news and events more organized.

Lastly, before when I used to tweet, prior to Tao of Twitter, I had no idea if anyone was responding to my tweets. I would tweet my friends a question or comment and never hear back! I had no idea how to find their responding tweets, but the book answered that question. Now I can find tweets that I was involved with. Just one click on the connect tab. Twitter is so easy with Tao of Twitter guide.

World Wide Rave

World Wide Rave by David Scott was an interesting read about utilizing social media sites for advertising, launching, and interacting business ideas, products, services, etc. I found the writing style to be drawn out at times and thought that the direction could have been straighter forward. Despite the details the book was enlightening, for example, Scott gave insight on how to create your own rave, prevent ranting, and when and how to give products out for free.

Business Venture

My business for Media Writing class is going to be a party planning business. I'll do anything from Weddings, to Birthday Parties, etc. The parties will have to be on site since I'll only have an office space for planning. The tentative name of my business is Fancy Parties.

Before Her Very Eyes

It was first noticeable at the age of 6, Maggie would try to take care of her baby cousins, and neighbors instead of play with the other elementary aged kids. Then again at 8, when she became interested in novels that were turned into R rated movies….”Maggie are you sure you want to read this story for your book report? It’s a little mature for you” said her English teacher. At the age of 10, she was holding a family members hand in an attempt to comfort them when in reality they should’ve been holding hers.

Years go by and the young girl continues to excel in everything she does. She strives for perfection and in the end always comes very close. From gymnastic meets to school exams she hardly ever falters. She graduated high school with honors-luckily hard work pays off! Despite getting into great schools she decides to stick around her hometown and go to school locally, maybe it was fear, maybe it was the advice her family had given her….staying local is cheaper, really?

Working her way through school while studying hard to sustain her Dean’s list status she stayed in a lot and would rather drink wine than margaritas and beer at bars like the majority of her friends. Every summer in between college semesters she would get together with friends from high school, but as summers came and went so did her friends. She started to ask herself where they all had gone but eventually realized that while they were out and having fun she was at home, studying, being boring, acting 30….etc. Maggie finally graduated college with honors and continued on her path of becoming a wedding planner. Realizing she had nothing holding her back in the suburbs of New Hampshire she wondered off into Boston.

Years pass and she finds love…many times but never on her end. She gets promoted and becomes the head wedding planner in New York City, her dream job! It quickly became apparent to her that although she had all kinds of satisfaction from achieving her dream she realized how hard she had been working. Once she peaked out from the rock she was under she saw the time that passed, she was grown and all by herself. When Maggie’s mom woke her up that morning to go to school, she told her she would never play dress up in her closet again.

My Future-As Far as I can See

I started classes at UNHM in the fall of ’09. I came here directly out of high school because I had no idea what I wanted to go to school for and because my parents refused to pay anything more. They’re reason? Well, your sister went there so your education will be even…makes tons of sense. Anyways, truth is, I probably wouldn’t have lasted away from home living in a dorm for too long-I like my own bed, and I don’t think dorms are overly fancy.  So 3 and ½ years later I am still here and expected to graduate this summer with a degree in Business with a  concentration in communication and management….I’ve made some progress from 3 and ½ years ago. Moving on, I want this blog to be like one of those vision boards that you’re told to make as a freshman in college so your chances of completing your dreams are higher. I made one as a freshman but have since lost it. Maybe this blog will be a better option for me. Each week I’ll post about the things that I want to accomplish either for the week, semester, year or in my lifetime. Some posts will be realistic, others may not…we’ll see. This week, I want to complete my first week of interning at American Red Cross without pulling my hair out and, or, quitting which will be a big issue considering I need to complete the internship to graduate. Here’s to a successful week!
